UK's Labour Party MP for Bethnal Green and Stepney has expressed her deepest condolences over the death of BNP Chairperson and former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
In a post on her verified Facebook page, she wrote, “I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.”
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji‘un. I extend my deepest condolences to her family, friends and the people of Bangladesh at this time,” she said.
As the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the second in the Muslim world, Khaleda Zia made history, Rushanara said, adding that she was deeply committed to promoting education, tackling poverty and promoting the development of Bangladesh.
“I will always remember with great fondness our meetings during my visits to Bangladesh and her visit to the UK. She had a great affection for the United Kingdom and of course the British Bangladeshi community,“ the Labour MP also said.
