Hundreds of thousands of people have gathered in the capital to attend the funeral prayer of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. Heavy traffic congestion has been reported on several roads as people arrive from different parts of the country. Crowds were also seen on flyovers.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister was stranded in the Farmgate area while travelling from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Manik Mia Avenue due to the massive crowd. The situation was observed around 1:30 pm on Wednesday (December 31). Members of law enforcement agencies were seen surrounding the vehicle carrying the Sri Lankan minister.
A law enforcement official said, “The Sri Lankan Foreign Minister is in the vehicle. He is supposed to attend Khaleda Zia’s funeral prayer, but due to the massive crowd, he is unable to reach the venue. That is why we are guarding his vehicle.”
