Mobile traders vandalised the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) headquarters at Agargaon in Dhaka on Thursday, January 1, afternoon while demanding the cancellation of the National Equipment Registration (NER) system.
Twenty-four individuals were detained by law enforcement following the incident.
Around 6:00 pm on Thursday, broken glass was visible in the corridor of the BTRC building, with a large number of bricks scattered on the ground. The glass panels of the main building were also damaged.
Some Ansar members stationed at the BTRC building told Jago News that the mobile traders had been protesting outside the premises since 2:00 pm. The vandalism began around 3:00 pm.
By 6:00pm, a heavy presence of army personnel, police, and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) had been deployed around the building. During this time, five people were detained and taken away in an army vehicle.
