Jamaat amir meets Tarique, offers condolences over Khaleda’s death

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Thursday evening met BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and expressed condolences over the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

The Jamaat chief visited the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan political office around 7:00pm, a day after Khaleda Zia was laid to rest. 

Upon arrival, he signed the condolence book opened at the office, BNP Media Cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan said.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman later held a meeting with Tarique Rahman at his chamber in the presence of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee members Nazrul Islam Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed and AZM Zahid Hossain.

During the meeting, the Jamaat amir conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family and exchanged views with BNP leaders, party sources said.

Earlier on Tuesday, a Jamaat-e-Islami delegation led by Nayeb-e-Amir Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher visited the Gulshan office, signed the condolence book and met BNP leaders.

On Wednesday, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, along with senior Jamaat leaders, also attended the namaz-e-janaza of the late BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
