Man shot dead in Rajshahi

A man was shot dead allegedly by a group of assailants over local feud on the Padma River char at Palashi Fatehpur Karali village of Bagha upazila in Rajshahi in the early hours of Sunday, January 4.

The deceased was identified as Sohel Rana, 35, son of Kalu Mandal, a resident of the  same village in the upazila.

Quoting family members, Bagha Police Station Sub-Inspector (investigation) Supravat Mandal said the attackers entered the room of Sohel after breaking the house posing as government officials. They opened fire on Soheld indiscriminately around 1:00 AM, leaving him dead on the spot.

His wife, Swadhina Khatun, 30, was also injured in the attack and is currently receiving treatment at the Upazila Health Complex.

Being infomred, a team of police recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination, the SI said.

“The attack may be linked to previous violent incidents in the area,” the SI added, noting that the investigation is ongoing. “Legal action will be taken against anyone found involved once they are identified.”

The incident comes in the context of earlier clashes on October 27, 2025, over straw harvesting on Padma River chars across Bagha (Rajshahi), Lalpur (Natore), Ishwardi (Pabna), and Daulatpur (Kushtia), which resulted in multiple shootings and three deaths.
