China’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, on Wednesday described the country’s upcoming national parliamentary elections as an internal matter. He emphasised that China adheres to a policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and expressed hope that Bangladesh would hold a peaceful and fair election.
The ambassador made the remarks during a meeting with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman at the party’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka. A statement later published on the official Facebook page of the Chinese Embassy highlighted the discussion.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on China-Bangladesh bilateral relations, party-to-party cooperation, and the current political situation. Ambassador Yao Wen also expressed deep condolences over the passing of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, noting that China and Bangladesh are comprehensive strategic partners.
The statement added that since establishing diplomatic relations, the two countries have maintained ties based on mutual respect, equality, and cooperation—serving as an example in international relations. Ambassador Yao Wen also highlighted the long-standing friendly relations between the Chinese Communist Party and BNP, saying China is ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the future, aiming to elevate China-Bangladesh friendship to new heights.
During the meeting, Tarique Rahman reaffirmed BNP’s firm commitment to the One-China policy and expressed gratitude for China’s long-term support for Bangladesh’s development. He described China as a trusted friend and reliable partner and pledged that BNP would continue working to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries for the welfare of their peoples.
