EC suspends election activities in two Pabna constituencies

Due to boundary disputes, the Election Commission (EC) has decided to suspend election activities in Pabna-1 and Pabna-2 constituencies.

EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the information to Jago News on Friday (9 January) morning. He said, “The Honourable Court has instructed us not to carry out any election activities in Pabna-1 and Pabna-2. Therefore, election activities in these two constituencies have been temporarily suspended.”

Earlier, on 5 January, the Appellate Division had suspended the portion of the EC’s amended notification dated 24 December, which had restored the previous boundaries of the Pabna-1 and Pabna-2 parliamentary constituencies. The order was issued by the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, during the hearing of petitions filed by the Election Commission and a candidate challenging the High Court’s verdict.

According to the announced schedule, Bangladesh’s 13th national parliamentary election and the referendum are scheduled to be held on 12 February.
