Popular actress Mehazabien Chowdhury and her brother Alishan Chowdhury have been discharged from a case filed over allegations of threats and intimidation.
The order was passed on Monday (12 January) following a hearing at a Dhaka court by Executive Magistrate Md Adnan Julfikar.
Mehazabien and Alishan appeared before the court in the morning and submitted their responses to the allegations. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court issued the order discharging them from the case. Defence lawyer Tuhin Howlader confirmed the matter.
Earlier, a man named Amirul Islam had filed the case at a Dhaka Executive Magistrate’s Court under Sections 107 and 117(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). According to the complaint, Amirul claimed that, due to a long-standing acquaintance, he invested Tk 27 lakh as a partner in Mehazabien’s new family business. However, as business activities did not commence even after a long time, he demanded a refund, alleging that the accused delayed returning the money.
The complaint further stated that on 16 March last year, Mehazabien, her brother, and several unidentified individuals allegedly summoned him to a restaurant in the Hatirjheel area, where they verbally abused him and issued death threats. He later approached Bhatara Police Station, where police advised him to seek legal recourse through the court.
