ICT publishes full verdict on Hasina, Kamal’s death sentences

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has published its full verdict, sentencing ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death for crimes against humanity committed during the July mass uprising.

The 457-page verdict was made available on the Chief Prosecutor’s Office website on Tuesday (January 13), 57 days after the initial announcement. It orders the death penalty for both individuals and the confiscation of their property in favor of the state. Both are currently absconding.

Former Police Inspector General Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who appeared as a prosecution witness, has been sentenced to five years in prison.

On November 17, the tribunal had already sentenced the ousted Prime Minister and the former Home Minister to death in one case, and to life imprisonment in another. The state has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court seeking the death penalty for the life imprisonment case.
