11-party alliance to announce final seat-sharing decision today

The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance will announce its final seat-sharing decision on Wednesday. Ahead of this, the alliance’s top leaders are scheduled to meet at noon.

According to sources, the noon meeting will finalise the seat-sharing arrangement. Various parties within the alliance will hold their executive council meetings starting in the morning, with the final decision expected to be announced in the evening.

Earlier, at 1:00 am, Rashed Pradhan, Vice President and spokesperson of the Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA), a member of the 11-party alliance, posted on Facebook: “The long-awaited final list of seats for the 13th national parliamentary elections will be announced on Wednesday, 14 January, at 4:30 pm, Insha’Allah.”

On Tuesday evening, the Khelafat Majlis held a meeting and stated that an urgent session will take place at the central Majlis at 11:00 am on Wednesday, after which the party’s decision regarding the elections will be announced.

Similarly, the executive council of Islami Andolan Bangladesh met on Tuesday evening. Although the meeting continued until midnight, the party could not reach a final decision. Attempts to contact the top leaders regarding the matter were unsuccessful.

A source from the 11-party alliance said that Islami Andolan’s meeting ended without a final decision. The party’s highest policymaking forum is expected to decide on Wednesday. Even though the party met separately and with Jamaat on Tuesday, no final decision was reached.
