Bangladesh’s professional cricketers have issued a strong ultimatum, threatening to boycott all cricket activities if Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director M Nazmul Islam does not resign by 1:00pm on Wednesday.
The warning came from the Cricket Association of Bangladesh (CAB), the platform representing cricketers’ interests. CAB President Mohammad Mithun confirmed the decision, saying players have unanimously agreed not to take the field if Nazmul Islam remains in office.
“Nazmul Islam must resign before the start of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match. Otherwise, cricketers will not play,” Mithun said.
He made the remarks during a press conference held via Zoom on Tuesday night.
According to Mithun, the drastic step was taken in protest against what he described as Nazmul Islam’s recent controversial comments about cricketers. “Those remarks go against the dignity, respect and professionalism of the players,” he said.
The development has raised serious concerns over potential disruption to domestic cricket, including the ongoing BPL, as tensions between players and the BCB leadership escalate.
