The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday, January 18, declared valid the nomination of BNP Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo for the Feni-3 constituency.
The Commission decides this after hearing an appeal petition against his nomination filed on the allegation of holding dual citizenship.
Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for the same seat, Dr Mohammad Fakhruddin Manik, filed the appeal.
Fakhruddin Manik alleged that Mintoo mentioned in the information provided to the returning officer’s office that he abandoned US citizenship on December 9, 2025; however, he returned home using a US passport on December 15.
The Election Commission today rejected Fakhruddin Manik’s petition, clearing the way for Mintoo to contest in the upcoming general election.
