Battery-operated rickshaw drivers lift road blockade, issue ultimatum

Battery-operated rickshaw drivers have lifted the road blockade in Badda, Dhaka, after issuing an ultimatum to the interim government, demanding the operation of nearly 2.41 lakh battery-operated rickshaws with thin tires and the suspension of sales of three types of thick-tired auto-rickshaws by Akij Company. The drivers warned that if their demands are not met by January 30, they will resume their agitation from February 1.

They also claimed to have received assurances that the police administration will not create any obstacles for the operation of thin-tired battery-operated auto-rickshaws.

On Monday (January 19) at 12:20 pm, the drivers made the announcement and cleared the roads. Traffic has since resumed on the Kuril-Badda-Rampura route.
