Over 450 shanties gutted in Ukhiya Rohingya camp fire

A devastating fire broke out early Tuesday (January 20) at Block-D of Camp-16 in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, gutting more than 450 shanties, according to victims.

The blaze was brought under control after three to three-and-a-half hours with the help of local Rohingya volunteers and fire service teams, confirmed Dolar Tripura, station officer of Ukhiya Fire Service.

Tripura said eight fire service units responded to the fire at Camp-16 in the early hours of Tuesday. Along with law enforcement agencies and Rohingya residents, they managed to bring the fire under control after three to three-and-a-half hours of operation. The fire reduced around 400 to 450 shelters to ashes.
