Rangamati univ teacher dismissed over certificate forgery

The authorities of Rangamati Science and Technology University (RMSTU) have dismissed one of its teachers for securing his position through fraudulent means, including submitting a fake experience certificate, forging signatures, and concealing information.

The dismissed teacher was identified as Jewel Sikder, an associate Professor of the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department of the university.

The university Vice-Chancellor M Atiar Rahman confirmed the matter on Tuesday, January 20.

According to university sources, Jewel Sikder was accused of forging the signatures of the head of the CSE department and the Registrar of Southern University Bangladesh, using counterfeit letterheads, withholding relevant information, and unlawfully receiving financial benefits as a result.

Later, three seperate probe bodies formed against him by the university administration found the allegatons true.

At the 9th meeting of the Regent Board held on December 17 last year, he was dismissed from service effective the same day, and his post was declared vacant, in accordance with the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018. 

The university administration also instructed him to return all salaries and financial benefits received since joining the institution. Failure to comply will result in legal action.

Earlier, on  November 20, 2023, he had been removed from the post of Proctor and relieved of all university committee responsibilities.
