Today’s struggle is against those who oppose independence: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said a certain party is currently spreading slander and will not receive the people’s votes. “They are anti-independence. Today’s struggle is against those who oppose independence,” he said.

He made the remarks at a public rally organised by the Sylhet district and metropolitan units of BNP, along with the Sunamganj district BNP, on Thursday (22 January), in connection with the 13th national parliamentary elections.

He further said that over the past 15 years, people have sacrificed their lives and faced enforced disappearances in the struggle for democracy, but they have never bowed their heads. “Tarique Rahman’s journey today marks the journey towards a new Bangladesh,” he added.

Earlier, BNP’s first election rally began at 10:50am with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Local BNP leaders have been addressing the rally since the beginning.
