An application has been filed with a Jhenaidah court seeking a defamation case against Jamaat-e-Islami nominated candidate for the Kushtia-3 constituency, Amir Hamza, over alleged derogatory remarks about former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and her son Arafat Rahman Koko.
The application was submitted by Advocate Abdul Alim to the Jhenaidah Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court (sadar amli) on Sunday afternoon.
The court, presided over by Judge Mokhlesur Rahman, took cognizance of the complaint and directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to conduct an inquiry into the allegations.
According to the complainant, Amir Hamza recently made indecent and offensive comments regarding former President Ziaur Rahman, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, and her son Arafat Rahman Koko, which allegedly damaged the dignity and reputation of the Zia family.
Abdul Alim said that the remarks amounted to defamation of the Zia family as well as leaders and supporters of the BNP.
He added that the application was filed in protest of the incident and to seek legal redress, calling for appropriate punishment under the law.
