Train services on Dhaka-Sylhet-Ctg route halted after derailment

A coach of the Dhaka–Chattogram-bound ‘Dhaka Mail-2’ train derailed at Bhairab Bazar Junction in Kishoreganj, bringing train operations on the Dhaka-Sylhet-Chattogram route to a complete halt.

The accident occurred at around 3:00am on Tuesday (January 27), shortly after the train departed Bhairab Bazar Junction and moved a short distance ahead.

As of 8:00am on Tuesday, the derailed coach had not been recovered. As a result, train services on both the up and down lines remained suspended, leaving several trains stranded at different stations along the route and causing severe suffering for passengers.

Confirming the incident, Bhairab Railway Station Master Md Yusuf said the train had departed Dhaka Railway Station at 11:45pm and reached Bhairab Bazar Junction at 2:55am, where it received clearance from the cabin master to proceed. After advancing about 150 metres from the junction, the fourth coach behind the engine derailed, blocking both the up and down lines at the station.

Immediately after the accident, efforts to remove the derailed coach could not be initiated. Later, a relief train from Akhaura arrived at the scene, and recovery operations are currently underway.
