Case-trading amounts to murder of justice system: Jamaat amir

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Tuesday said that case-trading amounts to the murder of the justice system.

He alleged that following the July mass uprising, some people had filed cases naming thousands of accused, thereby harassing innocent individuals. “We have said that we will not take revenge. Everyone has the right to seek legal remedy, but no one should be harassed through false cases,” he said. “That is why we have filed only eight cases, with a maximum of 98 accused.”

Dr Rahman made the remarks while addressing an election rally at the Jashore Eidgah ground as the chief guest, responding to various demands raised by local residents. At the event, he also pledged that if Jamaat comes to power, Jashore will be declared a city corporation.

The Jamaat amir said their party’s election symbol is the balance scale and that they would not tilt it even slightly, ensuring that everyone receives the rights they deserve.

Targeting the BNP, he said, “On one hand, they talk about family cards, and on the other hand, they lay hands on women. These two cannot go together. This sends a message that if they come to power, no one will be safe.”

The rally was presided over by Jashore district Jamaat amir Golam Rasul. Special guests included Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar and Islami Chhatra Shibir Central President Nurul Islam Saddam.
