BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has claimed that only his party can effectively control law and order and tackle widespread corruption in the country.
Speaking at a divisional election rally held at Eidgah Ground in Rangpur on Friday, January 30, Tarique highlighted the BNP’s previous governance record as proof of its ability to maintain public safety and uphold law and order. “BNP alone can free the country from the grip of corruption,” he said.
Referring to the late Abu Sayeed’s vision, Tarique emphasised the need to end corruption, criticising past mega projects for being used as a cover for large-scale financial mismanagement. He said, “Development is welcome, but corruption must be eliminated. Only BNP can achieve this.”
He also called for accountability, saying those who looted national wealth and transferred it abroad must be brought to justice, and efforts should be made to repatriate stolen funds for public use.
Tarique addressed citizens’ demand for broader reforms, noting that people want employment, safe streets, and secure communities, not just large infrastructure projects. “With your support, BNP can establish a safe and well-managed Bangladesh,” he added.
He criticised rival parties for misrepresenting BNP’s past governance. “Those who were part of our government from 2001 to 2006 prove that BNP successfully managed corruption and governance,” he said.
Rangpur City BNP Convener Samsuzzaman Samu chaired the rally.
Among others, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, and Divisional Organising Secretary Principal Asadul Habib Dulu, spoke here.
