The 30th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) wrapped up on Saturday at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre in Purbachal, reporting export orders worth Tk 224.26 crore and domestic sales of approximately Tk 393 crore, highlighting the resilience of Bangladesh’s trade and consumer demand despite inflationary pressures.

Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin officially declared the fair closed, while Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman presided over the ceremony. Senior officials from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) were also present.

According to EPB data, 329 local and international companies participated in DITF-2026, including 11 foreign firms from India, Turkey, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Malaysia. The fair attracted orders from countries such as Afghanistan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Malaysia and Turkey.

Potential export orders, equivalent to $17.98 million, came from sectors including multipurpose jute products, electrical and electronics, home appliances, cosmetics, hygiene products, processed foods, handloom and home textiles, Nakshi Kantha, and fabrics. Domestic transactions reached Tk 393 crore, marking a 3.42% increase over the previous year.

The fair featured a wide array of products and services spanning cottage, micro, small, medium and large industries, including garments, leather products, jute items, agro-processed goods, furniture, home décor, toys, stationery, crockery, handicrafts, plastic and melamine products, herbal and toiletries, imitation jewellery, real estate services and fast food.

Awards and recognition

At the closing ceremony, 40 companies were recognised for excellence across categories, including pavilion and stall design, architectural beauty, product display, customer service, cleanliness and hygiene, innovation, digital presence, and contribution as exporters and manufacturers.

Promoting export growth

DITF-2026 also hosted eight seminars aimed at boosting export diversification and enhancing exporter capacity. These were organised by the EPB in collaboration with government trade promotion bodies (BSCIC, SME Foundation, JDPC), sectoral trade associations (BPGMEA, BGAPMEA, BFPIA, BanglaCraft), and development partners including the World Bank, GIZ, FCDO and BSI.

An Export Enclave showcased the strengths of seven leading export sectors, targeting both local and foreign buyers. Facilities such as a Senior Citizen Corner, mother-and-child care centre, and children’s park were set up to enhance visitor experience, while health awareness campaigns and strict security measures ensured safety and convenience throughout the month-long event.

The fair’s success underlines the potential of Bangladesh’s trade and export sectors to thrive even amid economic uncertainties, reinforcing the importance of DITF as the country’s flagship trade showcase.
