Script submission deadline for govt film grants extended

Filmmakers have been given more time to pitch their stories, as the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has extended the deadline for submitting scripts and proposals for government-funded films.

According to a notification signed by Deputy Secretary Sharmin Akhtar on Thursday, January 29, producers and directors can now submit full-package proposals – including story, screenplay and overall production plans – until 5:00pm on March 1 for the 2025-26 fiscal year.

The earlier deadline was January 29.

The extension, the ministry said, was granted to make the process more convenient for filmmakers.

The ministry had initially invited applications on January 8, announcing grants for up to 12 full-length films and 20 short films in the upcoming fiscal year, subject to a set of eligibility conditions.

Government film grants are awarded annually to promote creative talent, encourage new filmmakers and support diverse, story-driven cinema while preserving Bangladesh’s cultural heritage.
