Processions, rallies banned at Chattogram Port

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has imposed a ban on all processions, rallies, public meetings, human chains, and roadside gatherings in areas surrounding Chattogram Port following disruptions caused by a strike called by the Sramik Dal.

A public notice, singed by CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz, was issued  in this regard on Saturday night, January 31.

According to the notice, CMP said that campaign activities related to the 13th Parliamentary Election have been exempted from the restriction. Frequent demonstrations in the port area often lead to severe traffic congestion and disrupt import-export operations.

The restriction has been enforced in areas adjacent to the port, including Barek Building intersection, Nimtala intersection, Jetty Gate No. 3, Customs intersection, Saltgola crossing, and surrounding locations to maintain law and order and ensure the smooth operation of port activities.

The ban also includes a prohibition on carrying or using weapons and hazardous materials, including firearms, swords, spears, knives, sticks, explosives, bricks, and stones, within the restricted areas.
