BB buys $218.5M from commercial banks

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has purchased $218.5 million from 16 commercial banks at an exchange rate of Tk 122.30 per US dollar, the central bank announced on Monday, February 2.

This latest purchase brings the total foreign currency acquisitions for the 2025-26 fiscal year to over $4.15 billion.

In January this year, Bangladesh Bank purchased $223.5 million from 14 banks on January 6, $81 million from 10 banks on January 12 , $45 million from 2 banks on January 20 , and $55 million from 5 banks on January 29. 

All transactions were conducted at the same rate of Tk 122.30 per US dollar.

Bangladesh Bank Executive Director and spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan confirmed the purchase, noting that the central bank continues to actively manage the foreign currency market to maintain stability.
