None will be above the law, even the PM: Jamaat Amir

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Thursday said no one would be spared from justice under his party’s vision of governance, even if the accused is the Prime Minister.

Addressing an election rally at Nawabganj Government College ground in Chapainawabganj around 1:30pm, he said the same punishment must apply to everyone regardless of position or power.

“If an ordinary citizen faces punishment for a crime, there will be no exception even if the Prime Minister is involved in the same offence,” he told supporters.

“We want a justice system that applies equally to Muslims, Hindus, Christians and people of all faiths across Bangladesh.”

Shafiqur Rahman said establishing such a system would help curb extortion and corruption. He claimed all channels of extortion would be shut down and those involved would be brought into productive work for the country. He also vowed that corruption would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The Jamaat chief urged members of law enforcement agencies to stand by national interests, noting that individuals within the RAB, police and armed forces are not the same.

He called on supporters to pledge to protect the country’s sovereignty, saying they should be ready to sacrifice if necessary but never give away “even an inch” of land.

Referring to Bangladesh’s political history, Shafiqur Rahman said people have witnessed cycles of governance and misgovernance for decades and are now eager for change.

“The people are tired of the old political patterns. They want something new,” he said.
