Akhtar Hossain alleges death threats, files GD

A general diary (GD) has been filed alleging death threats made over the phone to Akhtar Hossain, a candidate for Rangpur-4 in the upcoming national parliamentary elections and member secretary of the National Citizens Party (NCP).

Akhtar filed the GD at Pirgachha Police Station in Rangpur on Saturday night (February 7).

According to the GD, while campaigning in Kishamat village of Chhawla Union in Pirgachha on Saturday afternoon, Akhtar received a phone call from an unknown number. The caller allegedly used abusive language and issued death threats. Later that night, he lodged the general diary with the police.

Speaking to reporters, Akhtar said, “In the afternoon, I suddenly received a call from an unfamiliar number. The caller used obscene and abusive language and threatened to kill me. He said my family would be slaughtered and warned that he would ‘see us after the election.’”

He further alleged that his rivals were attempting to influence the election using black money and muscle power, and said the threat might be part of those efforts.

“In connection with the incident, I have filed a general diary with the police,” he added.

Pirgachha Police Station duty officer ASI Azad confirmed the filing of the general diary.
