Incomplete work of Aug 5 to be completed on Feb 12: Jamaat amir

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said that the unfinished work of the August 5 movement will be completed in the upcoming election on February 12.

Speaking at an election rally held at DIT Project playground in Badda, Dhaka, on Sunday, February 8, he described the day as a historic opportunity to honor the sacrifices of those who shed their blood for justice.

“The blood of my brothers and sisters will be repaid on February 12. This is the day to fulfill the aspirations they fought and died for,” he said, warning that history will not forgive those who betray this cause.

Shafiqur highlighted that the youth have already expressed their stance and predicted that voters will show a “red card” to corrupt politicians, extortionists, and loan defaulters.

Addressing the rally, he criticised the ruling party, saying, “Those oppressed under 15 years of Awami rule have seen some move from victims to oppressors. Misconduct that began on August 6 continues even today. We fought and shed blood for justice, not for injustice.”

He also referred to the martyrs Abrar, Fahad, and Hadi, pledging, “We owe them. If given the opportunity, we will build the Bangladesh they envisioned.”

Urging voters to support the Shapla Koli symbol of Nahid Islam, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said, “In the Bangladesh of tomorrow, leaders like Nahid Islam will guide the nation, and we will follow. If the 11-party alliance comes to power, Nahid Islam will serve as a minister.”

He added, “Five years are enough to change the nation’s destiny. We will make no false promises and will work to fulfill our commitments. We will safeguard every inch of our 56,000-square-mile land, Inshallah.”

Shafiqur concluded by addressing Dhaka-11 voters, saying, “Those who stood as guardians in July will be guardians again on February 12. Every vote and every seat is important to us.”
