A video of AR Hafiz Ullah, the Jamaat-e-Islami-nominated candidate for the Lakshmipur-4 (Ramgati and Kamalnagar) constituency, has recently gone viral on the social media platform Facebook. In the video, he allegedly told voters, “If you vote in favour of Islam and the Quran, you will earn reward, and heaven is guaranteed for you. But if you vote against the Quran, you will be sinners.”
Hafiz Ullah is the district secretary of Jamaat and a resident of Ramgati upazila.
Local sources said that while campaigning in a village of Kamalnagar upazila 4–5 days ago, Hafiz Ullah made the remarks, stating, “If you do not vote for Daripall (balance scale), it will be a sin, and if you vote, it would guarantee heaven.” His statement went viral on Facebook on Sunday (February 8).
In the video, Hafiz Ullah is seen speaking while holding a microphone: “There are allowances for widows, the elderly, maternal benefits, and the disabled. Are you receiving these? No, you are not. Then there are fishermen cards; you are not getting them either. I request you that one party has been corrupt for years, and another party has been corrupt in the past and is ready to do it again. I assure you, our party will not be corrupt. I want to say, if you vote in favour of Islam and the Quran, you will earn reward, and heaven is guaranteed for you. But if you vote against the Quran, you will be sinners. Once they are elected, they will engage in tender scams, extortion, and misuse project funds—this is what they do.”
Regarding the matter, AR Hafiz Ullah said, “This was part of an internal programme. I have given many statements, and parts of it have been cut and combined to create this. I did not make such a statement. A protest will be lodged regarding this incident.”
