BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that, so far, the party believes the environment for the upcoming election is favorable.
He said the BNP has been carrying out movements and struggles for the restoration of democracy for the past 16 years and expressed hope that the upcoming election will restore people’s voting rights and democracy. If the election is held in a free and fair manner, he added, it will create a major opportunity for state reform.
Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks at a press conference held at his residence in Thakurgaon around 11:00am on Tuesday (February 10).
During the press conference, he said the recent visit to Thakurgaon by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has had a positive political impact. He added that there is no scope for election engineering in the upcoming polls and expressed confidence that government officials and employees will carry out their duties properly.
He further said that the BNP considers all elections important and never views its opponents as weak. He alleged that Jamaat is carrying out various strategic propaganda campaigns and attempting to spread disinformation, but stressed that the BNP believes in positive and constructive politics.
Mirza Fakhrul also said the party’s position is that voters are free to vote for whomever they choose. The most important issue, he emphasized, is ensuring that everyone goes to polling centers to exercise their voting rights.
