India tightens security along border ahead of Bangladesh polls

India has strengthened security in border areas adjacent to West Bengal ahead of Bangladesh’s 13th national parliamentary elections. The measures have been taken in connection with the upcoming polls, according to India’s Border Security Force (BSF) and local police authorities.

From Tuesday morning (February 10), state police began conducting search operations in several areas of the Swarupnagar block in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. In the morning, police from Swarupnagar Police Station, under the initiative of Basirhat Police District, started checking vehicles at Tentulia Bridge. In addition, intensified searches are being carried out on all roads leading to the border and in crime-prone areas.

At the Labanga intersection on the road to the Ghojadanga border, police are stopping vehicles and conducting thorough searches. Each vehicle is being inspected, and the documents of drivers and passengers are being carefully examined. Furthermore, Basirhat sub-divisional police have conducted raids on residential hotels in the area.
