Home Affairs Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Wednesday warned that strict and immediate action will be taken if any incidents of ballot box snatching, fake voting or other irregularities occur during the national elections.
He issued the warning while inspecting the Operation Control Room at Police Headquarters and visiting New Market and Mohammadpur police stations under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on February 11.
At Police Headquarters, the adviser reviewed the overall law and order situation across the country and assessed the security arrangements put in place for the polls. He also observed the use of body-worn cameras by law enforcement personnel to ensure transparency and accountability. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam and other senior officials were present.
During his visits to the two police stations, Jahangir instructed officers to carry out their election duties with integrity, professionalism and neutrality. He underscored that maintaining a peaceful, credible and fair electoral environment remains a top priority for the government.
The adviser cautioned that any failure to prevent ballot box snatching, vote rigging or other election-related misconduct would lead to strict action against the responsible law enforcement members and election officials.
Later, he visited the Teachers’ Training College centre in the capital, where election materials were being distributed to various constituencies in Dhaka.
