Fair election taking place: Army chief

Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman on Thursday said that today is an extremely important and joyous day in the life of the nation.

“We have been waiting for this day for the past one and a half years. A fair election is taking place today, and voters will cast their votes without fear,” he said after casting his vote at the Dhaka Adamjee College polling centre.

The Army Chief added that the country has been experiencing a very peaceful environment since the morning, which is conducive to voting. “I have already checked the situation across Bangladesh to see what is happening in different areas,” he said.

He further stated, “The information I have indicates that the election is proceeding very peacefully. I urge honourable voters to leave their homes without fear, go to the polling centres, and cast their votes. For those unable to vote, media personnel are performing a very important role by informing the public about the situation. People are reassured and enthusiastic to participate in the voting process. We will be able to successfully complete a fair election, Insha’allah.”
