Tarique eyes majority to form govt

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Thursday expressed confidence that his party will secure the required number of seats to form the government in the 13th national parliamentary elections.

Speaking to journalists in front of the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka, he said the party is optimistic about achieving a majority and is prepared to lead the country if given the mandate.

“We are optimistic about getting the necessary seats to form the government. We certainly expect at least that much. If we can form the government, we will be able to run the country very well,” Tarique said in response to a question about the number of seats BNP expects to win.

He also indicated that the BNP is open to forming a broad-based government with parties that were part of its political movement.

“We have said that we want to run the country together with more or less all the political parties with whom we have been involved in the movement,” he added, hinting at the possibility of an alliance government.

The remarks come as voting in the 13th parliamentary election is underway across the country, with major political parties closely watching turnout and early trends.
