Gono Odhikar Parishad candidate Mohammad Josim Uddin, contesting with the ‘Truck’ symbol in Cumilla-4 constituency, announced his decision to boycott Thursday’s parliamentary election, alleging widespread irregularities.
Joshim, who secured backing from the BNP after its candidate Manjurul Ahsan Munshi declared disqualified to contest the polls, made the announcement around 4:30 pm through a Facebook Live broadcast, claiming that incidents of vote tampering and other electoral malpractices had compromised the integrity of the polls in the constituency.
Josim Uddin alleged that the irregularities made it impossible to ensure a fair contest and said he could not continue in what he described as a flawed electoral process.
Election officials had not immediately responded to his allegations at the time of filing this report.
