Tarique leads in all counted centres in Bogura-6

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, contesting with the party’s electoral symbol ‘Dhaner Sheesh’ (Paddy Sheaf), is heading toward a landslide victory in the Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency, according to unofficial results.

Preliminary results from 116 out of 150 polling centres show Tarique Rahman securing 1,61,651 votes, more than double that of his nearest rival.

His closest contender, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Abidur Rahman Sohel, contesting with the ‘Daripalla’ (Scale) symbol, received 72,180 votes. Tarique is currently ahead by a margin of 89,471 votes in the counted centres.

Among other candidates, ANM Mamunur Rashid (Hatpakha) secured 2,036 votes, Dilruba Noori (BSP, Ladder symbol) received 639 votes, and Abdullah Al Waqi (JSP, star symbol) got 212 votes.

Voting in the constituency was held peacefully from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm on Thursday (February 12). Results began arriving at the district returning officer’s office and the upazila headquarters in the afternoon.

Local political observers say the substantial margin in the 116 centres indicates a clear advantage for Tarique Rahman.

Reacting to the unofficial results, Shahid Un Nabi Salam, Organising Secretary of Bogra District BNP, said, “We have struggled for 17 years to restore voting rights. This time, people cast their votes with great enthusiasm. The spontaneous participation reflects the people’s renewed confidence.”

Counting of the remaining 34 centres is still underway. Authorities have reinforced security across the district, with additional patrols deployed to maintain law and order as the final unofficial results are awaited.
