The Election Commission (EC) has reported a voter turnout of 59.44% across 299 of the 300 constituencies nationwide.
EC Director (Public Relations) and Information Officer Md Ruhul Amin Mallick shared the information on Friday.
He said the voter turnout was determined based on data received from polling centres across the country. Final results from a few isolated centres are still pending; however, the overall turnout remains steady at 59.44 percent.
The EC noted that compared to the previous 12th parliamentary elections, this year’s turnout is nearly 18 percent higher. Commission officials attributed the increase to improved law and order and better administrative preparations, which encouraged greater voter participation.
A detailed, constituency-wise breakdown will be released later by the Election Commission.
Voting was held nationwide on Thursday in 299 parliamentary constituencies. According to unofficial results announced by the EC, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured victories in 210 constituencies, paving the way for government formation. Meanwhile, the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami won 72 seats, while independent and other candidates claimed seven seats.
Results for 10 constituencies are yet to be declared, and voting in one constituency was postponed following the death of a candidate.
