Youth killed in clash between BNP, independent candidates

A young man, who was injured in a clash between the supporters of a BNP candidate and an independent aspirant in Bagerhat, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, February 14.

The victim, Osman Sardar, 29, was a supporter of BNP rebel candidate for Bagerhat-2 (Sadar-Kachua), MAH Selim, and son of Shahjahan Sardar, a resident of Paranwapara in Sadar upazila.

On Friday evening, February 13, the followers of Selim and the BNP-backed candidate for the same constituency, Sheikh Mohammad Jakir Hossain, clashed in Chhitabari village in Kachua upazila, leaving at least 10 injured.

Enamul Kabir Sardar, elder brother of Osman, said his brother locked in an altercation with the BNP candidate's men yesterday, and at one stage, the latter hacked him.

He was rushed to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital and later, shifted to Khulna for better treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries, Enamul added.

Bagerhat Model police station officer-in-charge Md Masum Khan confirmed the matter of death.
