ABM Sirajul Mamun, the Khelafat Majlis candidate supported by the 11-party alliance, has demanded a vote recount in the Narayanganj-5 constituency, alleging irregularities and manipulation in the election results.
He made the demand at a press conference held at the Narayanganj Press Club on Saturday afternoon, February 14.
He claimed that while the voting environment was generally peaceful, numerous irregularities occurred at various centers. These included restricting his polling agents from entering certain centers, keeping them outside counting rooms, conducting counting outside CCTV coverage, recording invalid votes as votes for the “Dhaner Sheesh” symbol, and collecting result sheet signatures without recording the actual results.
Mamun further alleged that, although initial private TV reports showed him leading, the final official results were mysteriously altered, declaring the BNP candidate as the winner. He accused election authorities of deliberately tampering with the outcome despite clear public support for him.
He announced plans to pursue legal action and said a written complaint had been submitted to the District Election Office and the Chief Election Commissioner.
Mamun urged authorities to conduct a transparent recount at each polling center to ensure the voters’ true choice is reflected.
