Jamaat amir vows not to bow to ‘evil forces’

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman has vowed that his party will not bow to “evil forces” amid reports of post-election attacks, vandalism and harassment in various parts of the country.

He made the remarks in a post on his verified Facebook page on Sunday morning, February 15.

Referring to incidents affecting party members and supporters, including alleged harassment of women over casting votes under the symbol of an 11-party alliance, Shafiqur said,  “Wherever such attacks occur, we must stand beside the oppressed with the people and organise strong protest and resistance.” “God willing, we will remain steadfast on justice and truth. We will not bow to any evil force.”

He called on party leaders and supporters to stand firmly with the general public, calling it a moral, religious, and patriotic responsibility. “There is no room for weakness in fulfilling this duty,” he added.
