The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will commence sales of essential goods at subsidised prices for the holy month of Ramadan from Tuesday, February 17, nationwide.
Under the Ramadan programme, consumers will be able to purchase edible oil, sugar, chickpeas, lentils, and dates at prices below the regular market rate. The items will be available both through family smart cards and TCB truck sales.
Confirming the matter, Shahadat Hossain, a TCB spokesperson, said that all preparations have been completed. Dealers have been instructed to deposit advance payments to collect the goods in time for the launch.
In addition to regular monthly sales for smart card holders, TCB plans to distribute goods via trucks to approximately 30 to 35 million general consumers across the country during Ramadan.
Chickpeas and dates will be added to the regular items specifically for the festive period. Details regarding the quantities and prices for truck sales are yet to be announced by the corporation.
The initiative aims to stabilize market prices during Ramadan, Shahadat Hossain said, adding that the sales program will cover every district, city corporation, and divisional city throughout the country.
