A compartment of the Dhaka-bound Mahanagar Express derailed near Hasanpur Railway Station in Nangalkot upazila on Monday afternoon, prompting the temporary suspension of train services on the Dhaka-bound route from Chittagong.
No casualties, however, have so far been reported in this connection.
Confirming the matter, Nangalkot station master Md Jamal Hossain said that the derailment took place at around 3:25 pm while the train was en route from Chittagong to Dhaka.
Md Saifur Rahman, mechanical in-charge at Laksam Railway Junction, said that a relief train was dispatched from Laksam, with a second team mobilized from Chittagong.
Joint recovery operations are set to commence upon the arrival of both teams.
As of 6:00 pm, on-site rescue work had not yet begun, he added.
