The National Citizen Party (NCP) finally signed the July National Charter on Monday, marking a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing political consensus-building process.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain signed the charter at the State Guest House Jamuna in the presence of Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.
The ceremony was attended by National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz, commission member Badiul Alam Majumder, and the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Haider.
Addressing the event, Dr Yunus said, “The nation trusted that NCP would sign this charter, and today that trust has been fulfilled. The July National Charter is now complete. We thank NCP for participating in this historic initiative.” He stressed that every effort must be made to implement the charter across all levels to build a humane and compassionate Bangladesh.
Yunus also noted that the swearing-in of newly elected members of parliament is scheduled for tomorrow, extending his best wishes for a successful tenure.
On behalf of the party, Nahid Islam said, “Our elected MPs will take the oath tomorrow. While two oaths will be taken simultaneously, we remain committed to fulfilling the trust that the people have placed in us. Although NCP was the last to sign the July Charter, we have been among the most active in ensuring its implementation.”
The NCP delegation also included Monira Sharmin, Sarwar Tushar, Javed Rasin, and Zahirul Islam.
Senior Assistant Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Foyez Ahammed confirmed the signing to Jago News on Monday night.
