The newly elected members of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) took their oath of office on Tuesday.
Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath at the oath-taking room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Following convention, the BNP members took the oath first as they are the majority party.
According to the official results, the BNP won 209 seats on its own, while its alliance partners, Gano Odhikar Parishad and Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), secured one seat each. Ganosamhati Andolon also won one seat.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the main opposition party with 68 seats. Its alliance partners, the National Citizen Party (NCP), won six seats, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis two seats, and Khelafat Majlish one seat. Islami Andolon Bangladesh won one seat, and independent candidates were elected in seven constituencies.
