Music, celebration fill JS South Plaza as concert marks cabinet swearing-in

The South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban came alive on Tuesday evening as music, rhythm, and celebration took center stage to mark the historic swearing-in of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, his cabinet ministers, and newly elected Members of Parliament.

Young people, families, and citizens from all walks of life flocked to the plaza, turning the Parliament precinct into a vibrant festival of sound and joy.

The concert, which began in the early evening, is part of the celebrations following the BNP-led government’s return to power after nearly two decades.

At around 7 pm, the magical voice of Baby Nazneen took the stage, captivating the audience with a performance that blended patriotism and contemporary rhythm.

Many attendees were seen recording videos on their phones, while others danced freely to the lively tunes, their energy echoing across the plaza.

Before launching into her first song, Baby Nazneen took a moment to congratulate Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on assuming office, setting the tone for an evening of celebration and national pride.

“Today we sing together. Bangladesh first,” she told the cheering crowd, emphasising unity and hope for the nation.

Several other renowned musicians from across the country are scheduled to perform throughout the evening, promising a mix of traditional and modern numbers that celebrate Bangladesh’s culture and democratic spirit.

The festive mood at the Parliament complex began early in the day. In the morning, newly elected MPs took their oaths, followed by Tarique Rahman being sworn in as Prime Minister in a high-profile ceremony at the South Plaza. Later, the Council of Ministers took their oaths, cementing the new government’s formation.

By evening, the official ceremony’s gravitas gave way to music and jubilation, with the plaza echoing with applause, cheers, and the rhythm of drums and melodies – a rare blend of politics and entertainment that turned the Parliament’s open spaces into a lively stage for the people.

The concert continues into the night, offering Bangladeshis a chance to celebrate a historic political moment with music, dance, and shared optimism for the road ahead.
