Saudi Arabia has officially announced that the holy month of Ramadan (1447 Hijri) will commence on Wednesday, February 18, with Muslims across the Kingdom set to observe the first fast.
The announcement was confirmed Tuesday evening by the Saudi Press Agency.
In preparation for the sacred month, authorities have undertaken extensive decorative and organizational measures in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. Major roads, intersections and public squares have been illuminated to reflect the spiritual significance of Ramadan and to create a welcoming atmosphere for residents and pilgrims.
According to municipal officials in Mecca, approximately 12,000 linear meters of illuminated decorative panels have been installed across the city. In addition, 15,000 linear meters of LED lighting have been set up on bridges, pedestrian overpasses and lampposts along key thoroughfares.
Authorities have also placed 30 illuminated crescent sculptures at prominent locations, while more than 50 artistic light installations have been arranged in parks and pedestrian areas.
In Medina, markets and streets have similarly been enhanced with decorative lighting and improved organizational arrangements. Security measures have also been strengthened to ensure a smooth and safe observance of the holy month.
