7km long tailback on Dhaka–Chattogram Highway

A 7-kilometre-long tailback formed on the Narayanganj stretch of the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway on Wednesday morning, causing significant disruption to commuters and transport operators.

The congestion began after 8:00am on the Chattogram-bound lane, stretching from Mouchak to Madanpur. Traffic movement slowed to a near standstill, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded on the busy highway.

A traveller heading to Cumilla said that he had been stuck for nearly 30 minutes near the Shimrail Bus Stand shortly after starting his journey, raising concerns that a trip usually completed within an hour and a half could take several hours.

Transport drivers attributed the situation to increased vehicular pressure on the highway and slow movement on the Asian Highway section at Madanpur.

Kanchpur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahabub said that the congestion was primarily caused by excessive traffic and ongoing road renovation work along the Asian Highway route via Madanpur.

However, no accidents were reported in connection with the tailback, he added.
