The Tk 74 lakh in cash recovered from Thakurgaon district Jamaat Amir Belal Uddin Pradhan at Saidpur Airport ahead of the election has been deposited with the court.
Nilphamari Superintendent of Police Sheikh Jahidul Islam confirmed the matter on Wednesday evening.
According to police, Belal Uddin Pradhan arrived at Saidpur from Dhaka on a US-Bangla Airlines flight on February 11. During a routine security check, law enforcement officials found an unusually large amount of cash in his possession, along with two mobile phone sets and clothing items.
The SP said his explanation regarding the source and purpose of the money was not considered satisfactory, prompting members of the joint forces to detain him for questioning.
Police said that after being detained, Belal Uddin Pradhan fell ill. He was initially taken to Saidpur Hospital and later shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Although he was released later that night, the recovered cash and other items were formally deposited in court through a treasury challan, the SP added.
