Two suspected muggers were allegedly beaten to death by local people at Khodda Mozahidpur village of Sadullahpur upazila in Gaibandha early Friday, February 20.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, police said.
Witnesses said that a three-member group was seen near the Madarhat Bridge area under Idilpur union. Suspecting them of criminal intent, locals chased them. While attempting to flee on a motorcycle, the trio reportedly lost control and fell into a roadside pond in Mozahidpur village.
As news of the alleged robbery attempt spread during Sehri, residents gathered at the scene. Two of the suspects were pulled from the pond and beaten by an agitated crowd, leaving them on the spot.
Confirming the matter, Sadullapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alim Uddin said that police recovered the bodies and seized a motorcycle from the scene.
They were looking into the matter, the OC added.
