Veteran investigative journalist Saleem Samad has passed away at the age of 74 after suffering from cancer.
He breathed his last on Sunday morning, February 22, while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical College Hospital in Dhaka's Dhanmondi.
His first namaz-e-janaza was held at the Jatiya Press Club, and the second one at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) premises this afternoon.
Samad received the Ashoka Fellowship in 1991 for his work on environment and development.
He had more than 35 years of experience in investigative journalism in South Asia, reporting on conflict, security, forced migration, Islamic Jihad, good governance, elective democracy and press freedom.
