Tajul Islam has been removed from his position as the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), a post he was appointed to during the interim government led by Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus. Advocate Aminul Islam has been appointed as the new Chief Prosecutor.
The Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs issued a notification regarding the appointment on Monday, February 23.
According to the notification, under Section 7 of the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973, Aminul Islam has been appointed as Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal until a reappointment is made. At the same time, the previous appointment of Tajul Islam has been canceled.
Aminul Islam previously served as a lawyer representing former BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in her corruption cases, in which she was sentenced to imprisonment.
Supreme Court lawyer Tajul Islam was appointed Chief Prosecutor on September 5 following the July-August 2024 mass uprising.
